BlindSpread Week 4 Report: Where Our Players Disagreed With Vegas Most

Every week, BlindSpread players guess every NFL spread and total without seeing the Vegas lines. The lines are revealed after they submit, and we score how close each guess landed. That gives us something no sportsbook or media site has: a clean record of what real fans thought the lines should be, before they ever saw them.

Week 4 is in the books. Across 7 players making 179 blind guesses, here is where our crowd disagreed with Vegas the most, plus the best call, the worst miss, and the game that split the room.

Where we disagreed with Vegas most

1. Dallas Cowboys at Houston Texans (spread). Our players guessed DAL -2.5 on average; Vegas said HOU -2.5. Average miss: 5.0 points across 6 guesses. The crowd did not just quibble about the number here, it had the wrong team favored.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns (total). Our players guessed O/U 42.5 on average; Vegas said O/U 38.4. Average miss: 4.1 points across 7 guesses.

3. Miami Dolphins at Minnesota Vikings (total). Our players guessed O/U 42.2 on average; Vegas said O/U 38.5. Average miss: 4.1 points across 5 guesses.

Best call of the week

Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers (spread). The crowd averaged DET -3, against a Vegas line of DET -3.5: an average miss of just 0.5 points over 6 guesses. Somebody in this player pool knows something.

Worst miss of the week

Dallas Cowboys at Houston Texans (spread). The crowd averaged DAL -2.5 while Vegas hung HOU -2.5: an average miss of 5.0 points. No shame in it; the line is the line for a reason.

The game that split the room

Miami Dolphins at Minnesota Vikings (total). Guesses here scattered more than anywhere else this week (standard deviation 4.0 points across 5 guesses). When the room is this divided, the game is usually worth watching.

What this tells us

Four weeks in, the pattern is holding: fans are sharpest on totals for games they have watched and loosest on spreads for mismatches, where the favorite's margin is genuinely hard to price. If you want to find out whether your instincts beat the market, there is no cheaper way than guessing blind.
